Brawn: Schumacher suffered from lack of simulator

January 5th, 2011

Mercedes GP PETRONAS Team Principal Ross Brawn has revealed that Michael Schumacher's troubles during the 2010 Formula One season can be partially attributed to the team's inability to make use of a top driver simulator.

Brawn explained that, unlike many of their rivals, Mercedes GP PETRONAS does not have such a facility in place, though one is currently under construction and should be ready in time for 2012.

Schumacher would have got up to speed quicker had he been able to use a simulator last year, according to Brawn.

"He would have been able to work much more on the behaviour of the tyres. That we do not have a top simulator was certainly not a help,"
Brawn explained to Auto Motor und Sport.

"[Our simulator] won't be fully operational before 2012. We should make a big step with it over the winter. This technology cannot be bought on the market."

Schumacher finished last season in ninth place in the drivers'
championship, but has already stated he is confident of showing significant improvements in 2011.
